Have you been wondering about getting new lips but have been too scared to go ahead with the procedure?
Here are a few tips that may help you decide if this is the treatment for you…..
Lip enhancements are becoming increasingly popular for women and men of all ages. Lip fillers have become the go to procedure for lots of celebrities wanting that perfect pout and this has influenced a trend in lots of lovely clients wanting ‘Angelina Jolie’ or ‘Kylie Jenner’ shaped lips.
They don’t have to look fake and unnatural but instead can enhance your facial features and create symmetry to your overall face creating a much more beautiful look.
So if you are thinking about having lip fillers here are a few questions which may be running through your mind… with some advice and tips from myself added on.
What brand of lip filler should I choose?
Right now there are many types of different lip filler brands that aesthetic clinics offer, the prices vary depending on how long the product has been established and the longevity of the product. There are also different types of filler within each brand, your aesthetic practitioner will choose the correct type for you depending on what results you want to achieve.
The one thing to ensure is that the lip filler is a hyaluronic acid filler as this means it’s not permanent and can easily be dissolved.
Please do your research and choose a safe practitioner who offers these types of fillers.
How much lip filler should I get?
Most aesthetic clinics offer a minimum of 0.5ml and maximum of 1.5ml. A lot of clients think 1ml is a lot but when you think of how much 1 ml really is…it’s actually not very much at all! If you want to add volume to your lips then you definitely need to go for 1ml! Anything less than that won’t be noticeable. 0.5ml is usually for returning clients who need a top up every 6-9 months.
If you’re not after plumping up your lips and you’d rather enhance the shape or fix asymmetry then 0.5ml would probably do the job but a consultation should always happen prior to treatment to go through the expectations of how much filler is needed.
Can I have more lip filler straight after the procedure?
After the swelling has gone down you may want to have more filler, this is okay as long as the same brand of filler is used. You might not get the lips you want after just one appointment, it is better to take it slow and build up your lips over a few appointments to achieve the result you want.
Some clients want to have ‘Kylie Jenner’ lips straight away and this is not possible in just one appointment.
What are the benefits of lip fillers?
There are so many benefits to having lip fillers such as; fixing asymmetry, adding volume, creating the perfect lip ratio, enhancing your facial features and on top of all that it keeps your lips hydrated. It is a way of transforming your looks with a relatively quick procedure with minimal downtime.
What are fillers made from?
Lip fillers are made from Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural substance found in our skin! This makes the product safe to use and can be easily dissolved if needed. The gel (filler) plumps up the lips and supports the structure and shape of the lips.
What are the side effects of lip fillers?
Lip enhancements come with a few low risk side effects, the main ones being bruising and bleeding. You might need to wear concealer for a few days afterwards to cover up the bruises. This is totally normal as the lips are very vascular and injectors are likely to catch little blood vessels.
Always expect swelling after the procedure, this can last up to a week.
You might have heard lip fillers can be painful. Everyone has a different pain threshold but to be brutally honest… yes they can be. Ask your practitioner if they use a numbing cream prior to treatment, most clinics will do and this eases the discomfort.
If you are prone to getting cold sores you might want to take anti-viral medication from your G.P prior to treatments as lip fillers can trigger the onset of cold sores.
There are other more serious risks to this procedure which are very unlikely to happen if you go to a medically trained aesthetics practitioner. Your practitioner should go through these risks with you but on the whole this is a very safe procedure…. As long as you pick a registered practitioner who’s had good quality training!!! (I cannot stress that enough!)
How long will lip filler results last?
Most lip filler brands tend to last 6-9 months on average and premium fillers tend to last a bit longer, up to 18 months. Most clients like to come back for top-up every 6 months.
I hope you’ve gained some little tips and insights into lip enhancement treatments! Remember to go to a reputable practitioner, build your lips up over time and have that concealer handy after the treatment.
